Believe it or not, this photo of a monkey using an iPhone wasn't photoshopped.
Marsel van Oosten offered his account of how the Japanese snow monkey managed to get its hands on a hapless tourist's iPhone, and proceeded to curiously poke around at it.
The Dutch photographer was at the natural hot springs at Jigokudani in Japan to photograph the snow monkeys which reside there.
This species, also known as the Japanese macaque, typically lives in snow-covered areas far up North, and can be found on the islands Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu.
Van Oosten said the monkey in the photo managed to grab an iPhone from a tourist who had come one step too close to it, in an attempt to photograph it with her mobile. After it grabbed the phone, it moved away quickly out of reach. It started playing with it and even managed to set off the camera's flash, at one point before it dipped the phone underwater.
While this unfortunately spelled the likely death of the tourist's phone, it made for a great photo for van Oosten.
