Chhiring, otherwise known as @xiring.lama
on migme, is a 17-year-old beatboxer from Nepal. Despite his age, he’s reached
a surprising level of skill with the artform.
He says his life affair with
beatboxing started by accident. He was online watching music videos when he
stumbled upon French beatboxer Eklips. The “strange but incredibly compelling
sounds coming out of his mouth” entranced him, and he ended up watching a
string of Eklips’ performances online.
He started watching as many
beatboxing tutorials as he could in the following months, in order to build his
library of beatbox sounds. What started with tutorials went on to live
performances such as rap battle league Raw Barz and
the French Embassy’s Urban Rootdown festival.
Sudeep Manandhar, an organizer with
Raw Barz, said: “Xiring is a great beatboxer and did the best in Raw Barz.”
“I’m still learning,” the
beatboxer says humbly. When Xiring isn’t beatboxing, he’s in class for his
college entrance preparation exams. One day, he hopes to be like his heroes,
French beatboxers Alem and Beasty, Reeps One from the UK, and Dutch beatboxer
B-Art.
